Sacred Symbols - we do things that do things
Communion is not one but two Sacred Symbols. The bread and the wine. Each represents one aspect of the sarifice of Jesus and each is the key to unlocking a different level of victory in our lives.
Confession - speaking the truth about or into a situation. Speaking the truth about what we did, when we confess to a mistake or deliberate act. Speaking the truth about God to combat fear or unbelief. Confession is our seventh Sacred Symbol- one of those things we do that does things.
Believe and be baptised. Baptism is a mark of discipleship - a sacred symbols that speaks to the dramatic mysteries of salvation. This week Sue Jones unpacks the meaning of the Sacred Symbol of Baptism and what it means for us in the years that follow.
Worship is what we were created to do. Worshippers is who we are. When we worship as God intends, we are changed. Worship is one of those things that we do, that does things. It does things to us. You can not encounter the living God and go out the same way you came in.
We do things that do things. Tithing or giving to God through your local church is one of those things. Nothing ignites the emotions and causes a reaction like money - just proving the point that when we give we do things that do things. Why should we give to God. How should we give to God. Where should we give to God. This week Pastor Lydia answers all these questions.
The Third Sacred Symbol in our series is Oil. Used for anointing in the Old and New Testament it is also a symbol of the Spirit of God. Listen as Andrew Dickerson challenges us to seek a fresh anointing today.
The Sabbath was special from the beginning. Before the law was given to Moses, before the 10 commandments were inscribed on tablets - there was the Sabbath. Set apart and Holy. This week in our series on Sacred Symbols learn how to reclaim the lost art of the Sabbath, one of the essential rhythms of Grace.
There are things we do, in the physical world that have an affect, an impact, in the spiritual world, things like sharing the Lords Supper or Baptism.
We do these things because we recognise there is more going on than what we see with our physical eyes.
We do things that do things.
When we pray, we are changed - because prayer is spending focused moments with God and that will always leave us changed. So of all the Sacred Symbols - the things we do that do things - nothing does more than Prayer.
