What we believe at Hope Church

We believe:

In one God who has three distinct natures; Father, Son and Spirit, who made all things. (Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29 and Matthew 28:19)

The Bible is God’s words to us. It instructs and corrects us... it shows us how to get the best out of life. (2 Timothy 3:15-16)

Jesus is the Son of God. He gave up His Godly status to be born to a virgin mother, conceived by the Holy Spirit and came into the earth as a baby. Jesus is both fully human and fully God. (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18 and Luke 1:26-35)

All of us make mistakes, we are all imperfect and therefore we fall short of the Brilliance of God... we need to be saved from ourselves! (Romans 3:23-24)

But even so... We can enjoy a close relationship with God by accepting that the blood Jesus shed on the cross makes it possible for us. (Ephesians 2:13)

It is simple to enter into that relationship with God; If we admit our faults to God and say sorry, deciding to turn away from the things we know are wrong He forgives us, picks us up, dusts us off and makes us like new. (1 John 1:9)

The Holy Spirit is part of the Christian life, He covers us, makes us clean and fills us from the inside out, Through the Holy Spirit we have faith, experience miracles and many other things happen including some may speak in a holy language (tongues) and some may bring “words of prophecy” Which reveal things God wants to say to us at a given time. (Acts 2:4, 1 Corinthians 12:4-13 Ephesians 4:11-12)

God gives particular gifts and callings to people in the church that when used together equips the church to do every good work. These particular callings are listed in the bible as, Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Evangelists and Teachers. (1 Corinthians 12:28, Ephesians 2:20, 4:11-13)

It is good to be baptised in water just as Jesus was and to take bread and wine to remember what Jesus did at the cross. (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47-48; 1 Corinthians 11:16)

Marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman, and a symbol of the relationship between Jesus and His church.  (Matthew 19:4-6; Gen 1:27; Eph 5: 22-32)

God heals us from our diseases because they were removed from us when Jesus died on the cross. (Isaiah 53:4, Matthew 8:16-17 and James 5:14-16)

Jesus Christ will return. No one knows the time but the signs that the Bible describes to point to that event seem to be in place so it could be anytime! (1 Thessalonians 4: 15-18 and Matthew 24:29-44)

The dead will be raised to life and those living on earth at that time will also be taken up with them. (1Thessalonians 4:16-17, and 1 Corinthians 15:51-52)

All will be judged at the end of time; the wicked and the good. (Matthew 25:46, Mark 9:43 and Revelation 19:20, 20:11 and 21:8)
